Fantasy Baseball: Stock Watch for this Week

It’s our first edition of stock watch and while “stock watch” is a generic term in sports, I do think it applies to the performance of players in fantasy sports.

Here is a list of four players whose stock is up and four players whose stock is down.

Stock Up ⬆️

Sean Manaea, SP, Oakland A’s: Manaea no hit the Red Sox on Saturday night in a dominant performance. With a consensus ADP of 259, Manaea has been one of fantasy baseball’s biggest steals thus far in the early going.

Josh Hader, RP, Milwaukee Brewers: Hadar has been flat dominant thus far for the Brewers. He sports a 1.42 ERA and has struck out 26 batters over 12.2 innings. The lefty can pitch in any situation which makes him extremely valuable in fantasy and reality.

Jed Lowrie, 2B, Oakland A’s: the scrappy veteran is off to a hot start hitting .367 with 6 home runs and 23 RBI. The switch hitter has been around a long time and he makes great in game adjustments at the plate. Lowrie will cool off eventually but keep riding him while’s on this hot streak.

Asdrubal Cabrera, SS/2B/3B, Mets: Cabrera is currently hitting .354 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI. He is 11 for 25 with a home run and seven RBI in his last six games. I highly doubt Cabrera will keep this up but just like Lowrie, ride him while he’s hot.

Stock Down ⬇️

Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati Reds: Votto is off to a sluggish start which a bitter pill to swallow for people like me who drafted him early. I drafted him in the second round. He has been a bad pick thus far.

Scooter Gennett, 2B, Cincinnati Reds: I also drafted Gennett in one of my leagues hoping he can recapture the magic from his 2017 season. He hasn’t. I dropped Gennett as a result.

Ian Desmond, 1B/OF, Colorado Rockies: Desmond has 4 home runs and 11 RBI but he’s also hitting .151 on the season. Desmond is known for his cross category production but he hasn’t provided that thus far.

Alex Cobb, SP, Baltimore Orioles: To say Cobb has been awful in his first two starts with the Orioles would be a major understatement. He has an ERA of 15.43. Not good for a guy who was expected to front the rotation.
